OUR TAINO LAND LEAGUE
Mision
Colaborar con las comunidades y organizaciones locales a través de un equipo profesional multidisciplinario en las áreas de conservación, protección y restoración del patrimonio natural (suelos, bosques, cuencas hidrográficas, y paisajes) y cultural (yacimientos arqueológicos, edificios y sitios históricos, tradiciones y costumbres). Contamos con un equipo de antropólogos, geógrafos, planificadores, biólogos y arqueólogos.
La Liga Guakia Taína Ké estará enfocada en el desarrollo de cinco estrategias o vectores principales.
Primero: Abrir en Yabucoa el Centro Regional Naguake
(Centro de la Tierra Guayaney). En Naguake se ubicaran los programas y proyectos de la Liga, incluyendo:
· Comunidades Cooperativistas en Acción Sostenible (COAS): promover el cooperativismo y desarrollo sostenible a nivel comunitario como alternativa viable para lograr la autosuficiencia socioeconómica y la conservación del patrimonio natural y cultural de la región sureste de Puerto Rico.
· Turismo Comunitario EcoAgroCultural (TURECO). Se propone estimular y desarrollar el turismo con base comunitaria (agro-turismo, eco-turismo, turismo cultural).
· Cosechas Orgánica Agrícola (COA). Estimular el sector agrícola como fuente de desarrollo socioeconómico en las comunidades del sureste. Se propone el desarrollo de una agricultura orgánica y el fomento del agro-turismo.
· Centro de Estudios Integrados Bajari (CEIBA). CEIBA atiende la concienciación del pueblo puertorriqueño sobre su herencia etnohistórica cultural taína mediante foros, documentales y cursos de distintos tipos y duración. Se dará mayor énfasis a la re-educación de nuestros niños y adolescentes sobre nuestra herencia indígena.
o Reescribir nuestra etnohistoria: Se trabajara con el Departamento de Educación, Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña y Liga de Maestros para creara un currículo o modelo educativo que refleje nuestra realidad etnohistórica cultural.
o Programa Cultural-Lingüístico: programa en las escuelas primaria, secundaria y superiores para el aprendizaje de la cultura y lenguaje taino (arahuaco).
Segundo: Investigación Multidisciplinaria
Promover el desarrollo de proyectos de investigaciones multidisciplinarias en los campos de la antropología (etnografía, arqueología), geografía (sistemas de información geográfica) y estudios ambientales donde se compartan recursos humanos e infraestructura científica de las organizaciones participantes.
Tercero: Concienciación Social-Ambiental
Facilitar la participación ciudadana en todos los niveles respecto a los asuntos relacionados con el medio ambiente. Incluir la participación comunitaria en todas las fases de los programas de la Liga.
Promover actividades educativas orientadas a la protección, conservación y restauración de áreas de valor ecológico, agrícola y cultural.
Cuarto: Desarrollo de Liderato Ambiental
El cuarto vector atenderá el área de talleres, adiestramientos y cursos para jóvenes en los cuales se enfatizará la protección y manejo del patrimonio cultural y natural comunitario. Se creara una base de datos para manejar información sobre contaminación y salubridad en las comunidades.
· Creación de Centro Cultural Regional de Guayaney para atender las necesidades de las comunidades del sureste de Puerto Rico.
Quinto: Atender Retos Sociales
Crear programas para rehabilitar e integrar a personas con retos sociales. Trabajar con organización y centros de rehabilitación para atender el desarrollo cultural, ambiental, y social de los participantes.
Crear un ambiente en donde estas personas puedan desarrollar su talento y capacidades para contribuir a la misión de Gaukia Taina-ke y de sus respectivas comunidades.
Visión
Queremos ser reconocidos como una organización socio ambiental dedicada a la conservación, protección, restoracion, y manejo del patrimonio natural y cultural de la región sureste de Puerto Rico.
Ocuparemos una posición de liderazgo en apoyo a la agenda socio-ambiental-cultural en la región sureste de Puerto Rico (Municipios de Yabucoa, Maunabo, Patillas, Arroyo y barrios en los municipios limítrofes), mediante la gestión política en coordinación con otras organizaciones e instituciones locales e internacionales.

Mission Statement
Collaborate with communities and local organizations in the areas of conservation, protection and restoration of the natural and cultural heritage of the southeastern region of Puerto Rico. The natural heritage includes: soils, forests, river basins and landscapes. The cultural heritage includes: archaeological sites and historic buildings. We have a team of anthropologists, geographers, planning experts, biologists, and archaeologists that use innovate methods and techniques to accomplish the goals and objectives of Guakia Taina-ke.
We work with government agencies at the municipal, commonwealth and federal levels to procure funds and or donations for our community programs and projects.
Guakia Taína Ké is focused on the development of five principal strategies or vectors:
First: Open in Yabucoa the Naguake Regional Center (Center of Our Land Guayaney). Our programs and projects will be located in our main office in Naguake, including:
· Communities in Sustainable Action (COAS in Spanish): promote cooperativism and sustainable development at the community level as a viable alternative for achieving socioeconomic self-sufficiency and natural-cultural resources conservation in the southeast region of Puerto Rico.
· EcoAgroCultural Community Tourism (TURECO). Promote and develop community base tourism (agro-tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism).
· Organic Agro-Harvest (COA). Promote the agricultural production as a source of socioeconomic development in the communities in the southeast region. COA promotes organically grown crops and agro-tourism.
· Center for Integrated Studies Bajari (CEIBA). CEIBA creates indigenous etnohistorical cultural through forums, documentaries and courses. We will give major emphasis to the reeducation of our children and young adults regarding our indigenous (Taino) heritage.
o Re-Writing our Etno-Historical Cultural Past: We Hill work with the Puerto Rico Department of Education, Institute of Puerto Rican Culture and League of Teachers to create an educational curricular model that reflects our ethno-historical cultural reality.
o Cultural-Linguistic Program : school program from primary-high school level for the teaching of Taino culture and language (arahuac).
Second: Multidisciplinary Investigation
Promote multidisciplinary investigation programs and projects in the areas of anthropology (ethnography, archaeology), geography (geographic information systems) and environmental studies; where human and technical resources will be shared.
Third: Social-Environmental Awareness
Facilitate and promote community participation in all programs and projects related to conservation, protection, and management of the cultural and natural heritage of the region.
Promote educational activities directed at the conservation, protection, and management of the cultural and natural heritage of the region.
Environmental Leadership
Develop workshops, training and courses, (including postgraduate studies) focusing on the conservation, protection, and management of the cultural and natural heritage of the region.
Fourth: Develop Environmental Leadership at the Community Level
This vector attends the area or workshops, training and courses for children and young adults that emphasize conservation and monitoring of community natural and cultural resources. A data base will be created to manage the environmental information collected in the communities.
· Social-Environmental Awareness
Facilitate community participation at all levels and stages of program and project development and implementation. Promote educational activities orientated towards the protection, conservation, restoration of areas of ecological, agricultural and cultural value.
· Create Regional Cultural Center of Guayaney to attend the cultural needs of the southeast region.
Fifth: Attend Social Challenges
Create programs focused on the rehabilitation and integration of persons with social challenges.
Create an environment that encourages and nourishes the creativity of persons with social challenges so that they can contribute to the mission of Gaukia Taina-ke.
